Meaningful Statements from The Code of Ethnics of the Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children and the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment.
The Code of Ethnics of the DEC statement that stood out for me was in the Professional and Interpersonal Behavior part. It states that: We shall demonstrate in our behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value and human potential of each child. This statement stood out for me because special needs children are labeled with their aliment and treated with no respect. I worked with special needs children and I saw other teachers not give them respect. I reminded them that all children are special and need our respect and love. I was glad to read that statement in a code of ethnics because hopefully people will look at child as gift from God and not as the "label" that has been given to them.
The next code of ethnics that stood out was in the Professional Development and Preparation. It states that: We shall continually be aware of the issues challenging the field of early childhood special education and advocate for changes in laws, regulations, and policies leading to improved outcomes and services for young children with disabilities and their families. This statement stood out for me because I worked with special needs children and some laws need to be changed. In the state of Indiana a child must evaluated and "label" with whatever the ailment that is diagnosis. The label scares parent away from getting the help their may need. A change is needed in communicating to parents their child's diagnosis in way which the parents has a understanding what is needed. The stigma needs to be lifted that is associated with special needs children. We need to maybe communicate to parents that their child is special and just has extra characteristics that makes them exceptional.
The NAEYC code of ethical conduct statement that stood out for was in the section three under Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues-A-Ideals 1-3A.1. It says ideally there is a need to establish and maintain relationships of respect, trust confidentially, collaboration and cooperation with co-workers.
This statement stood out to me because at work our center just received a accreditation from the NAEYC and respect is lacking in the treatment of employees from administration. I think they need to read this statement again.

I have so much respect for those in the education line who respects and educates special need children with utmost patience. I see you have what it takes and even you advocate for these children among your colleagues. What a noble thing your pursuing. All the best.
