"Hunger" this year nearly nine million children will die needlessly because of hunger related illnesses. Few of these deaths are related to starvation, but rather to common illnesses (such as diarrhea, measles, and malaria) that move in on vulnerable children whose bodies are weaken by hunger. Hunger in the poor nations like Ghana and Niger overwhelming of majority of scenes are of malnutrition of children.
The world supply of food is not depleted is just that not everyone have access due to poverty. In the developing world 1.4 billion people live below the international poverty line earning less than 1.25 a day. Among the poor it is difficult to attain nutritious food as a result 1.0 billion people are undernourished. Freedom from Hunger organization has set a Credit with Education program is just such a strategy. The program includes transferring program technology that is developed to local people around the world and they are using it to help end world hunger through their own families and communities.
Here in America the one of the richest nations there is millions of working people don't know where their next meal is coming from month to month. About one-sixth of Americans don't have enough food to eat. Here in America there are the food stamp programs, the SNAP programs, pantries and farms subsidies govern by the Federal Government. These programs help but they are not the solution. I am a Head Start teacher and we service social economic disadvantage families and I hear stories all the time about parents who cannot feed their children. I always try to steer them to pantries that give away food on weekly basis. Head Start is a federal program that has the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) which provides money to feed the children three times a day. I encourage my parents to bring their children everyday so that at least they get feed three times that day. America does has a advantage over other nations at least the government tries to help with hunger other nations don't have government support.

ReplyDeleteHello Paula, I really enjoyed reading your post about Hunger. Hunger is one of the top child's stress tor in the world. Children need food and need to eat because it will help them development into a person. Even though we can't overlook the hunger issue, we have to do our parts in helping a child and continuing on donating to those countries and areas that cannot afford the means. Good Post and very insightful.
ReplyDeleteHello Paula: I enjoyed reading your blog yes it's true hunger can cause death due to starvation, and there are programs to help families who are in need of food. Do you know of any person family or friend that needed help from pantries, because there were not enough money to buy groceries?
ReplyDeleteYes I had children in classroom who needed food, clothes and shelter and I have to refer them to pantries and churches for help.
DeleteHi Paula,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the issues on 'Hunger'. This is a very important world and developmental stressor issue. While some of parts of the world go through 'hunger' , another part of the world is wasting so much food. I am so glad there are people like you who helps families who are with young children and struggling to feed them. Young children needs nutrition in order to grow healthily. I wish more can be done to those children in the countries which needs it most before its too late.

Paula, thanks for your post. You made a lot of good points. It is sad that so many children die in this world due to hunger. I, too, am a Head Start teacher. I also try to encourage my parents to bring their children everyday. Not only because of educating them but to make sure they eat a healthy meal. Mechan Smith

I always find it interesting how America is known as one of the richest nations, yet have such a severe poverty rate and how wide spread hunger is. I know there are many programs that offer solutions, but hunger appears to be going up instead of down in this country. What would you say is the leading cause
